A Night to Remember at L'Enclume:

This was a big Birthday for me , so my lovely partner booked us into the incredible L’Enclume.

Nestled in the picturesque village of Cartmel, Cumbria, L'Enclume has long been hailed as one of Britain's finest restaurants. As a gastronaut, I've had my fair share of exquisite meals, but my experience at Simon Rogan's three-Michelin-starred establishment was truly something else.

The Anvil

The Setting

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed into the cosy, rustic-chic dining room. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined, setting the stage for the culinary journey ahead.

The Menu

The tasting menu, a whopping 16 courses (plus a few cheeky extras):

Highlights of the Night

The meal kicked off with a series of amuse-bouches that tickled the taste buds and set the tone for the evening. But the real stars of the show were yet to come.

The beetroot tart was a tiny marvel that packed a flavour punch like Mike Tyson in his prime. Combining East coast lobster, pickled rosehip, and Diana radish, it was a testament to the kitchen's dedication - seven days in the making!

Then came the Berkswell pudding. Crikey, what a dish! Deep-fried cheese caramelised in birch sap with a generous grating of aged Berkswell. It was so good, I'm half tempted to pop back to Cartmel just for another bite.

Precision Cookery delivered by an army of dedicated People.

The 'Aynsome Offering' was a feast for the eyes as much as the palate. It looked like a summer garden had exploded on the plate, with a perfect balance of veg, herbs, and flowers, topped with a soft egg yolk and marigold salt.

But the pièce de résistance was the 20th Anniversary 'Anvil'. This dessert, a glistening caramel mousse with house-made miso, apple, and spruce, was the embodiment of L'Enclume's innovative spirit.

Scallops x Truffle - whats not to like.

The Verdict

L'Enclume isn't just a meal; it's an experience. Rogan's commitment to sustainability and local produce is evident in every bite. The staff's knowledge and passion shine through, even if their rapid-fire descriptions sometimes left me feeling like I was at a particularly tasty auction.

Is it pricey? Absolutely. But for a special occasion or for those who appreciate culinary artistry, it's worth every penny. L'Enclume continues to push the boundaries of British cuisine, and I, for one, can't wait to see what they do next.

So, if you're a foodie looking for your next adventure, get yourself to Cartmel.

Just be prepared to dream about that Berkswell pudding for months to come!
