Climat Manchester

Ambiance

Located on the eighth floor of Blackfriars House, Climat offers an inviting ambiance that is hard to match. The modern decor, characterized by marble-topped tables, sophisticated dark-toned seating, and a lofty ceiling with exposed pipework, creates a chic and elegant atmosphere. The real showstopper, however, is the panoramic view of Manchester’s city skyline. Floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor terrace ensure that every table has a stunning view, making you feel like you’re dining among the clouds.

Outdoor Area

One of the unique features of Climat is its outdoor roof terrace, which not only provides ample seating but also houses four bee-friendly hives. These hives are part of the restaurant’s sustainability efforts and will eventually provide honey that will feature on the menu. The terrace is adorned with a diverse range of ‘bee-friendly’ plants, adding a natural and earthy feel to the space.

Cuisine

The culinary experience at Climat is nothing short of exceptional. The menu, which changes daily, is inspired by Executive Chef Luke Richardson’s time in Paris and can be described as “Parisian expat food” or modern British cuisine with French techniques. Here are some of the stand-out dishes we had the pleasure of trying:

Hash Browns with Taramasalata: A creative take on traditional hash browns, these were unbelievably moreish and paired perfectly with the tangy taramasalata.

Beef Tartare: Fresh and flavourful, the beef tartare was served with potato and tarragon, showcasing the chef’s skill in balancing flavors.

Gougères: These savoury choux buns mixed with cheese were some of the best we’ve ever tried. Generously topped with parmesan, they were a delightful start to the meal.

Pastry Section: The pastry section is indeed one to watch. The toasted hay brûlée with English strawberries was a highlight, offering a creamy and aromatic dessert that was both unique and delicious.

Service

The service at Climat was just right – attentive, knowledgeable, and enhancing the overall experience. The staff were happy to provide recommendations from the extensive wine list, which features over 300 wines from around the world, with a significant focus on Burgundy. Their expertise helped us navigate the menu and wine pairings seamlessly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Wine

Climat is indeed a ‘wine-led’ restaurant, with its name referring to a specific wine-growing plot in Burgundy. The wine cellar, visible behind glass, houses over 2,500 bottles of wine, including selections from small producers and iconic vignerons. The sommeliers are on hand to guide you through the extensive list, ensuring you find the perfect pairing for your meal.

Sustainability and Unique Touches

The restaurant’s commitment to sustainability is evident not just in the bee hives but also in the use of natural materials like clay and limestone in the decor. This natural and earthy feel complements the modern architecture of the building, creating a harmonious and welcoming space.

 Conclusion

In conclusion, Climat Manchester is a must-visit for anyone seeking hospitality that’s a cut above. With its unique blend of culinary excellence, stunning views, and a commitment to sustainability, it offers an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you’re looking for a romantic evening, a catch-up with friends, or a special occasion, Climat is the perfect choice – and it’s all just eight floors above the bustling city centre of Manchester.
