I followed my stomach and it took me to Lisbon

Oysters with house-made green sriracha? Yes, please! And don't get me started on the seafood sharing rice - it's a Portuguese seaside holiday on a plate. πŸ¦€πŸ€

We had the most incredible dining experience at Santa Joana, Nuno Mendes' latest culinary venture in Lisbon.

What a Dude……

This glamorous yet casual restaurant, nestled in the Locke de Santa Joana hotel, is a true reflection of Lisbon's evolving cosmopolitan identity. (Big fans of locke more of them soon)

From the moment we stepped in, I was captivated by the calm, creamy space with its wood tables and elevated zinc bar.

The dappled light filtering through small mullioned windows created an enchanting atmosphere, dancing across tilework and antique wall frescoes.

Let's talk about the food, shall we?

Beef Tartare

First up, the oysters. Santa Joana offers a selection from all of Portugal's oyster regions, allowing you to compare and contrast these briny delights. I particularly enjoyed them with the house-made green sriracha - a perfect blend of local and international flavours.

Next, we couldn't resist sharing the steak tartare , gorgeous spiced Portuguese beef ,cream ,egg yolk dressed turnip.

But the real showstopper?

The seafood sharing rice. Picture this: a generous portion of rice studded with succulent crab, prawns, and lobster. It's a dish that truly celebrates Portugal's rich maritime heritage. What sets Santa Joana apart is Mendes' commitment to sourcing ingredients from a network of farmers, growers, and artisans within 186 miles of Lisbon.

This focus on local produce shines through in every bite.

The restaurant's sharing concept encourages a convivial dining experience, perfect for groups!

The drinks list , we started with two delectable cocktails , a beetroot gimlet inspired cocktail and an apricot ,Whisky ,curry infused beverage : a great way to start the experience.

We then enjoyed Vino Verde and my partner went all in with a beautiful maderia wine.

And with its spacious layout and terrace for alfresco cocktails, it's an ideal spot for a long, leisurely meal with friends.

Partnering with the esteemed Chef

White Rabbit Projects have made a splash in Lisbon with their impressive involvement at Locke de Santa Joana. They've launched nine unique restaurant and bar spaces within this luxurious hotel, showcasing their expertise in creating diverse culinary experiences.

This ambitious project demonstrates White Rabbit's commitment to backing innovative ideas and expanding internationally. With another Lisbon project already in the pipeline, they're certainly making their mark on the Portuguese capital's dining scene. Back to the restaurant' though ,Santa Joana is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Portuguese cuisine with a modern twist. Nuno Mendes has created a space where tradition meets innovation, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

Calm and classy a bit like myself 😊
